Website of the Day: Cheddarometer

30 08 2008

Our website of the day today is a must see for all cheese / sandwich lovers.

Cheddarometer is an awesome website developed by West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers.

On the front page of the Cheddarometer website it tells us that it is a culinary computer which utilises the company’s newly discovered formula to  ascertain the Sarnie Strata Ratio for your perfect cheese sandwich based on your choices of filling and calculate the optimum thickness of the slice of West Country Farmhouse Cheddar you should use.

The website has a nice sleek interface and appears to have quite a lot of Adobe Flash content. If you do not have flash player, I reccomend downloading it or this website will probably not work so well.

On pressing the ‘Continue’ button I am greeted with three types of bread that I can choose from.

I chose wholemeal.

I am now asked how thick I like my bread. This time I have gone for medium thickness.

Butter, Margarine or Nothing? Butter.

Pickle? No way!

I am now presented with a large list of cheeses, mostly all of them from the makers of this website. There is an option for supermarket own brand (mild) cheese, the one I am going to pick.

I have decided to add lettuce, no tomato and no mayonnaise.

Now for the formula. Too complex to type here. However, a ‘continue’ button has appeared.

Here is what I got….

Wholemeal Bread : 13mm
Lettuce : 3 mm (about 2 leaves)
Cheddar : 4.43 mm
Butter : 1 mm (average spread thickness)
Wholemeal Bread : 13mm

The optimum thickness of Supermaket own-brand Mild Cheddar for your sarnie strata selection is 4.43 mm.

Now off I go to get my ruler to measure the thickness of my butter!
